Nutritional Therapy is not just advising someone to eat healthily. It uses a combination of diet, naturopathic techniques and supplements to nurture the body into healing. The client's physical, mental and emotional state are all taken into consideration. A diet is devised that is 'do-able' for that individual given their lifestyle, location, food preferences, etc. The practitioner and the client will then work together to restore and maintain optimum vitality.
The initial consultation will generally last up to 1½ hours during which you will be asked a lot of questions so that the therapist can evaluate your state of health and the specific correct treatment plan. As there is a wealth of information to take on board Lorna will supply relevant handouts and recipes to be taken home.
Follow-up consultations - Lorna will make or expect a follow up phone call at around 2 weeks which will give the client time to implement their new changes. If there are any queries in the shorter term she is always available to discuss these. A follow-up appointment is usually 4-6 weeks after the original consultation. If a client needs more support then, this will also be provided. Follow-ups generally last 1 hour but occasional short 30min consultations may be deemed valuable.
A busy GP is usually unable to spend long amounts of time with any individual patient - It may be that they only have an allocated time slot of 5 minutes. Lorna will, on average, spend 90 minutes with her client at the first consultation. A nutritional therapist also specialises in the area of diet.
A Dietician is a person with a qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics recognised by national authority. The dietitian applies the science of nutrition to the feeding and education of groups of people and individuals in both health and disease.
A Nutritional Therapist will have a nutritional and naturopathic approach to health and nutrition, concentrating on addressing the underlying cause rather than simply treating the symptoms. What you eat and ultimately what you absorb can have a profound effect on your overall health including how you feel and your energy levels. By looking at you as a unique individual a specifically designed nutritional programme using diet and supplements together with lifestyle changes is designed for you. This will provide your body with the support to help harness its own remarkable healing powers encouraging you in your return to health.
As Lorna is trained as both fields she can offer you a very comprehensive service.
